Things to do in Tegucigalpa (Honduras)

Tegucigalpa is the capital of Honduras, located in the highlands of the country at roughly 990 meters above sea level. The Choluteca River crosses it from north to south and divides the city into two areas known as Tegucigalpa and Comayagüela. The latter is located to the west and merged with Tegucigalpa in 1898. Today the city is the commercial and financial center of the country. For any tourist there are always plenty of things to do in Tegucigalpa.

The city retains vestiges of the Spanish occupation, as do many cities in Latin America. This is most evident through the architecture. If you take a stroll through the historic area of Tegucigalpa you can enjoy incredibly classic architecture, seeing the San Sebastian Church, the Church of San Francisco, the National Identity Museum, Archaeological Museum and the Church of the Merced . All these sites contain interesting signs of the countries colonial era.
