Old Panama is the name given to the remains of an ancient settlement in Panama City between 1519 and 1671. Moving the current settlement (2 km to the southwest) was triggered by the devastation of the first foundation by an attack by pirate Henry Morgan. Today, the ruins of the ancient city are preserved almost intact in an archaeological site declared a World Heritage Site. These ruins shows the complexity of the facilities of the time in terms of pipelines, wells and cisterns but also in terms of its architecture with the evidence of a tower some 30 meters high in the old cathedral.
