Cartagena de Indias is a city in Colombia and the capital of Bolívar department. It is located on the shores of the Caribbean and since 1991 has become a popular tourist and cultural destination. During the colonial period and until 1811 it was a port of great importance to the Spanish Colony. Today, in addition to its great colonial buildings and ancient architectural attractions there are many things to do in Cartagena.

Exploring its architectural attractions, you will find an interesting variety of aged structures distributed throughout the city. Some popular attractions include the Convento de la Popa located on a mountain from which you have an excellent view of the city, the Cathedral of San Pedro Claver, the Square Bolivar, the Naval museum, the gold museum, the former Wall Cit of Casa de Nuñez, the museum of Modern Art and the Fort of the Inquisition.

Cartagena also hosts very interesting nightlife. We recommend you walk along Arsenal Street on a Friday or Saturday night. There you will find multiple places to grab a drink while enjoying a relaxing atmosphere or if you’re more adventurous, visiting any of the clubs along the street. Another nightlife hotspot is located at the Square Santo Domingo. You will also enjoy its annual international film festival, where they exhibit the best films of Latin American cinema. Apart from that be sure to enoy the beaches or even take a trip to see the mangroves or the volcano Totumo.
