The De Young Museum is one such museum dedicated to the fine arts with over 27,000 pieces to view which include textiles, painting and photographs along with permanent and temporary exhibitions. The copper building the De Young Museum is situated can also be considered a piece of art and a must visit for those interested in architecture. National Gallery of Art, Washington

If you are a fan of modern art then the National Gallery of Art in Washington is where you will be wanting to head to. There are collections of paints and sculptures dating back as far as the 16th century from France and Italy but the East Building of the National Gallery of Art has some of the most iconic pieces of modern art on display from the likes of James Pollock. Fans of the contemporary arts should head towards the collections from James Casebere and James Casebere. Admission to the gallery is always free!
