Interview: Scott & Christy from OrdinaryTraveler.com

This is our second interview with the travel blogging community. Today we have Scott and Christy from Ordinary Traveler. I’d like to thank them for taking the time from their busy travels to chat with us today.

1. What’s your name and where have you been in this world?

We are Scott and Christy, a couple who love to surf and travel as often as possible. Scott is from New Jersey and Christy is from Northern California, however we both currently live in San Diego. We have been to about 40 countries between the two of us. Our favorites include Thailand, Nepal,Laos, Bali, Peru, and Australia.

2. What is your blog address, how long have you been blogging and what is the main focus of it?

You can find us at www.ordinarytraveler.com. We have been blogging for close to a year on our site where we focus on providing tips to others who want to fulfill their dreams of travel, no matter what situation they are in. We travel even with student loan debt and want to show other people that travel in any situation is possible.

3. Besides the basic essentials, what is something you simply couldn’t live without on the road?

Our cameras and lenses. Capturing the places we see with photography and video is very important to us. Christy has been a photographer for over 15 years and rarely goes anywhere without her camera.

4. How has travel enriched your life?

Travel teaches us that anything is possible. The world is our oyster. We meet so many interesting and eclectic people while we are on the road with inspiring stories and lives. It has also taught us to slow down and the art of patience. We wrote a post on a few of the other ways travel has enriched our lives.

5. Of all the cities you’ve ever visited, which 3 left the largest impression on you and why?

I fulfilled a lifelong dream this year by visiting the country of Nepal. The people of Nepal and the tiny villages left a huge impression on me and you can read why here and here. We both love to surf, so we tend to choose places to visit based on the wave situation. Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica and southern Bali both made significant impressions on us because of the gorgeous scenery and amazing waves.

6. If you could be anyone for a day, who would it be?

We try not to live our lives wishing we were somebody other than ourselves, but I think it’s safe to say we would both love to be sponsored surfers/photographers who travel the world for free.

7. In a perfect world, where do you see yourself and your blog in 5 years?

We hope to be running a location independent business based on travel and photography. We also hope our blog is still inspiring others in 5, 10, and 20 years!

8. If you had 1 travel tip to share with the world, what would it be?

Stay calm and carry on. Travel, especially budget travel, comes with many unexpected surprises. Sometimes those unwelcome surprises, but if you stay calm, it will make those situations a lot easier to get through.

9. What stands out as your best and worst travel memory?

It’s hard for us to choose a favorite travel memory. We have fond memories of every place we have traveled. Our favorite memories include camping on the beach, surfing all day and eating delicious food.

Getting sick on the road is never fun, so we both have a few bad memories of feeling miserable while traveling.
